Apollo Green Energy Limited to Power Kerala with Landmark Floating Solar Project on West Kallada Reservoir

Apollo Green Energy Limited (AGEL) is bringing clean energy innovation to Kerala with a pioneering 64 MW floating solar project on the West Kallada Reservoir, located next to the iconic Ashtamudi Lake. With all project related studies and investigations completed, and major supplies already tied-up, work on the ground is set to begin soon.

Floating solar is emerging as a critical growth segment within renewable energy. By utilizing water surfaces, these projects avoid large-scale land use while enhancing efficiency through the natural cooling effect of reservoirs. They also reduce evaporation, improve system longevity, and enable dual use of water bodies without disturbing ecological balance. At the same time, floating solar requires advanced engineering, specialized anchoring systems, and precise grid integration. Apollo Green Energy has established proven expertise in delivering such technically complex projects.

The West Kallada project will generate renewable power in an environmentally responsible manner, ensuring minimal land impact while creating long-term benefits for local communities. The company also plans to take up more floating solar projects in Southern India, further strengthening its presence in this high-potential segment and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

In addition to floating solar, Apollo Green Energy has a number of other utility-scale projects currently on track, spanning solar, wind, and hybrid solutions. The company is also actively exploring opportunities in newer areas such as storage and green hydrogen, aligning with India’s clean energy transition and the government’s ambitious renewable targets. Commenting on the initiative, Sanjay Gupta, CEO, Apollo Green Energy Limited, said:

“The West Kallada project reflects the kind of innovation India’s energy transition requires, solutions that combine technical complexity with practical impact. Floating solar is not just about generating clean power, it is about rethinking how infrastructure can serve both progress and the community. At Apollo Green Energy, we see this as a blueprint for the future, which is scalable, responsible, and rooted in long-term value creation.”
