Goa’s First Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Spinal Fixation Successfully Conducted at Manipal Hospital

Goa, July 22, – A woman in her early 30s recently arrived at the Emergency Department of Manipal Hospital following a motor vehicle accident that resulted in a burst fracture of the D6 vertebra in her spine. She was in excruciating pain and unable to move or get out of bed. Imaging via MRI and CT scans revealed an unstable fracture compressing her spinal cord. Given the severity, she was advised to undergo stabilization of the affected spinal segment using the Minimally Invasive Percutaneous Pedicle Screw Fixation technique (MISS), an advanced approach in contemporary spinal surgery.
