India Appoints Megha Singh Nandiwal as Its First Ambassador of Global Tech InitiativesJuly 31st, 2025 | New Delhi

In a landmark move to elevate India’s presence in global technology leadership, the Government of India has appointed Megha Singh Nandiwal as the country’s first Ambassador of Global Tech Initiatives. This newly created role reflects India’s growing influence in shaping the future of technology, digital governance, and innovation-led diplomacy on the world stage.

As Ambassador of Global Tech Initiatives, Ms. Nandiwal will represent India in key international forums focused on emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, ethical AI governance, and digital inclusion. Her mandate includes fostering global partnerships, amplifying India’s tech diplomacy, and positioning the country as a leader in creating equitable and responsible digital ecosystems.

A seasoned strategist and technology leader, Megha Singh Nandiwal brings over 18 years of cross-sector experience across innovation strategy, digital transformation, and organizational leadership. Known for her work at the intersection of technology and impact, she has led large-scale transformation programs across global enterprises and served as a key advisor to fast-scaling digital ventures.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Nandiwal said:
“It is an honour to serve as India’s first Ambassador of Global Tech Initiatives. As a nation, we stand at the confluence of scale, innovation, and responsibility. I look forward to working across borders to build a technology future that is inclusive, ethical, and deeply human.”

The role is expected to be central to India’s engagement in multilateral platforms such as the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI), the G20 Digital Economy Working Group, and emerging dialogues around tech equity, cross-border data governance, and open innovation.

With this appointment, India joins a small but growing group of nations—including Denmark, France, the United States, and Singapore—that have formalized roles dedicated to global tech engagement. However, India’s unique strength lies in combining large-scale digital public goods (like UPI and Aadhaar) with grassroots innovation — a vision that Ms. Nandiwal is set to take to the global stage.

This appointment signals a new chapter for India’s “TechPlomacy” — blending the spirit of innovation with the ethics of inclusion and the strategy of global collaboration.
