Artist Mrinal Singh hails from Mithila’s renowned village Bhit-Bhagwanpur, Madhepur, Madhubani. His contribution for art and culture, along with his professional commitment at a multinational company as technical leader is highly commendable. His recent work of series of paintings titled “Machhak Kutumb” received great appreciation at the three-day Art Exhibition held from 25th August at Arpana Art Gallery, Delhi. The artist got the inspiration to depict this title from the dominance and auspiciousness of fish in Mithila society.
“Machhak Kutumb” literally means “Family of Fish”. And the fundamental meaning is unity, love and harmony in the family. The symmetry of the fish pair and their babies depicted in these artworks is depicted as lives together with the same thought and principle of family value. A family can be progressive only if their thoughts and ideology are in agreement. In the said artwork, the purpose of giving human form to the fishes is that the human family should also be stimulated to espouse the household quality of the fishes. By giving his identity to the Kachni style of Mithila painting, the artist is getting an integral acclaim in the art world. Veteran artists Arpana Kaur, Dr. Ramesh Kandagiri and Prof.
Dattatreya Apte, invited to the exhibition, praised Mrinal’s artistic skills and specially appreciated his storytelling style and cultural inclination. Chief Guest, Dr. Shashi Bala appreciated the art of Mrinal for bringing innovation in the folk art style and guided him to interact with the folk art of other cultures.
