Mumbai’s Streets Go Silent, Clean, and Green: BMC’s Electric Sweepers Win Public Praise

BMC’s TENAX battery-powered sweepers are quietly transforming the city—delivering cleaner roads, zero emissions, and fresher air from Colaba to Kandivali. After a year of nonstop success, this silent green army is set to expand, proving that Mumbai’s future is cleaner, quieter, and already in motion.

Mumbai – In a city known for its hustle, noise, and relentless pace, a quiet revolution has been sweeping through the streets—literally. For over a year now, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been using battery-operated electric sweepers to clean Mumbai’s roads, and the results are turning heads and winning hearts.

These sleek, zero-emission machines have become a familiar sight across South Mumbai and coastal areas, gliding through traffic and weather with remarkable efficiency. From torrential monsoon rains to scorching summer heat, the electric sweepers haven’t missed a beat—delivering round-the-clock cleanliness without the smoke, noise, or disruption of traditional diesel-powered vehicles.

A Cleaner City, A Healthier Tomorrow

Residents have noticed the difference. “The roads look cleaner, and there’s no loud engine noise early in the morning anymore,” says Priya Mehta, a resident of Marine Drive. “It’s a small change, but it feels like the city is finally breathing easier.”

The sweepers, powered entirely by electricity, produce zero emissions and operate almost silently—making them a game-changer for a city battling air and noise pollution. Their compact design allows them to navigate Mumbai’s narrow lanes and congested roads with ease, ensuring that cleanliness doesn’t come at the cost of traffic disruption.

One Year of Success – Voices from the Community

Over the past year, the machines have delivered reliable, consistent performance, operating without breakdowns or service interruptions. Their presence has already made a visible difference in cleaner streets and better living conditions.

As residents, we’ve experienced a remarkable improvement in the cleanliness of our neighborhood since these machines were introduced,” shared a local Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) member. “Every Mumbaikar deserves the same benefit, and we strongly feel more of these sweepers should be deployed across the city so that every ward can enjoy cleaner, greener surroundings.

Mumbai Leads the Way

As other Indian cities look for sustainable solutions to urban sanitation, Mumbai’s electric sweepers are setting a powerful example. Civic activists and environmental groups have praised the initiative, calling it a bold step toward reducing the city’s carbon footprint and improving public health.

For Mumbaikars, it’s more than just clean roads—it’s a sign that the city is evolving, embracing innovation, and putting people and the planet first.
